Clio Wood launched &Breathe Postnatal last year, offering families the chance to escape the daily routine of parenting and relax in a stunningly beautiful Manior in France - encouraging Mamas to focus on their fitness and diet (coached by incredible therapists and trainers) and to leave feeling rested and recharged.
&Breathe Postnatal has featured in The Telegraph, The Guardian, The HuffPost... to name but a few and has also been listed by The Times in their Top 50 France Holidays. All this in just over a year would indicate that this Mama can throw a bloody good retreat and is most definitely one to watch.
Over here in the UK, &Breath and WellVine are hosting what will undoubtedly be the fitness and wellness event of the year for new Mamas and Mamas-to-be: It Takes A Village. If you are looking for access to experts and an opportunity to connect with other Mamas, head over and bag yourself a ticket!
#youknowyoureamamawhen... 8am is a lie-in, and you don't even mind because you know most other mamas think 6.45 is a lie-in.
Spotlight on &Breathe Postnatal:
Give us an insight into &Breathe Postnatal.
I founded &Breathe after I had my daughter, Delphi in 2014. I was looking for a re-boot retreat but one that welcomed babies and families and was set up for postnatal care. It didn't exist and so I thought I'd create one! We launched in 2015 and we're going from strength to strength this year!
Tell us about the your manoir in France, La Croix de La Jugie, in which the retreats are held and why you chose it as the &Breathe Postnatal setting.
Practicality - the parents' watchword! - it's such a beautiful and calm environment and we have amazing spaces to set up all the activities. And we already own it! It's just a wonderful space to get away from your everyday life, which is what &Breathe is all about - re-setting as a parent, getting used to your new life, and taking some awesome new habits away with you.
What do your guests enjoy the most about your &Breathe Post-natal retreats?
It's amazing. Obvs. Seriously, it's not just me who says it, we've had such inspiring feedback from our guests, and we're utterly in awe that we've had such a positive impact on their lives :-) I think it's the combination of fitness, feel good chats and bonding (as a family and with new friends), and great healthy food in a beautiful setting that really does it. It's a great recipe for relaxation.
Spotlight on Mamahood:
What do you know today about Mamahood that you didn't know a month ago?
Tonnes of stuff. Every day's a school day.
Do you have a Mama ‘truth’ you keep secret in case of being judged by other parents and if so, would you care to share it today?
Far too much YouTube gets watched in our house...and bribery really is a wonderful thing.
What about your little person makes them so easy to love?
I just find her adorable - but doesn't every parent find their bubba amazing? She's a really happy little thing, which makes things easier. In between the tantrums.
When was the last time you felt 'Mama Guilt' and how do you deal with it?
I was away last week hosting a yoga retreat in France so didn't see the Bear or my husband for 7 days. Always feel guilty if I'm not around!
What is your Mama Mantra?
Fuck it, let's do it.
Spotlight on Clio:
What is currently on your nightstand?
All the crap I haven't yet found a home for - we're in the middle of redecorating!
When you manage to find that elusive 'me-time', what do you do with it?
Sleep, yoga/gym, or massage.
What are the last three items on your bank statement?
Fence paint from Homebase and paying a fine on the Dartmouth toll. Twice.
What inspires you and why?
All the parents (especially single parents) out there, growing up their awesome kids; feminists; mumpreneurs, building businesses to fit around their babies; and Scandi work-life balance and equality in parenthood.
What is the one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
When I was little my dad built a boat and we sailed on it as a family from the UK to Singapore.
